Pause and reflect

I added $20 to my mystery envelope and passed it along, to include another person in the chain. I chose a person for whom money is tight and who would value the chance to give away the money to somebody else. She ran into a woman standing around outside the Lafayette Library who said she was from the Mideast by way of Kansas. This recipient found $30 total in the envelope and proceeded to kiss the hand of the giver, identifying herself as a Christian and asking whether the giver was. The giver said she was Buddhist and that Buddha is like God. On her way back out of the library, the giver was moved to add to the amount the recipient had received. Reporting back to me, the giver said that it was a moving experience, apparently for both the recipient and her — like a Zen moment, playing out in reverse the normal course of events — an opportunity to pause and reflect.
